Lacey (Butch) Dan Mims

March 23, 1943 – January 3, 2015

Lacey Dan Mims III, age 71, passed away in his home on Saturday, January 3, 2015 in Garland, Texas. He was born March 23, 1943 as an only child to Lacey and Susie Mims.

Lacey graduated from Southern State College with a Bachelor of Science continuing his education to graduate with a Master’s of Science from the Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

His great passions in life involved studying a wide range of subjects including items such as Science, History, Genealogy, and Astronomy. Anyone who knew Lacey can appreciate his sense of knowledge and passion for the things that interested him the most. If you had a question, Lacey had an answer. He explored his many interest with a child like enthusiasm, carrying a mechanical pencil and Swiss Army knife where ever he went. His second passion in life was his love for muscle cars. Any that he owned, he treated them as if he was the guardian for which over his lifetime he had owned many. Lacey never grew old, always wearing the same "uniform" resulting in a pair of Levi blue jeans and a plaid shirt looking as if he was on his way to college any day now.

Lacey retired from Texas Instruments over a decade ago, but due to his desire to continue to support his family and education, Lacey promptly returned to work for GL Automation Inc. where he was actively working until his passing. GL Automation was a family away from home. He was dedicated to his beloved wife, his family, his career, and last but certainly not the least, his very best friend, Pup.

Lacey is preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife, Frances Kaye Mims, her two daughters Donna Lynch and Cassie Waters - her grandchildren Caden Waters and Caroline Gibson. Lacey's son: Anthony Tony Mims and daughter in law Deana Mims - his grandson Forest Mims.

He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

The family wishes to have a private ceremony at their time and location to honor the memory of Lacey.

I am sorry I did not make it this year. I was planning on attending. I am sending a check for $20. After it arrives, I would appreciate it if you would mail me a yearbook with student info. As far as events, my mother died 11-14-02. I still live in Dallas and retired from Texas Instruments. I now work for a small semiconductor equipment manufacturing company. Hope everyone is doing Ok. I read in the El Dorado News Times that we lost Charles Bowlin and Alan Alderson.

Again, sorry I missed the reunion.
