Elsie Stratton Cate, 88, of Houston, TX and formerly of El Dorado, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston.

Born June 1, 1919, in Raye, North Dakota, she was the daughter of Edgar Clyde Stratton and Libbie Mae Deeter Stratton. She was an active member in the Garden clubs of El Dorado and was an accomplished porcelain artist who taught painting in El Dorado prior to moving to Houston. A charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church, she served on the building committee and along with Betty Tolleson, started the Betty Tolleson Library of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Franklin Cate in 2001; and nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Ramsey and husband Rod of Houston; son, Gary Cate and wife Mary Lynn of Leawood, KS; grandchildren, Jeremy and Shannon Cate; step-grandchildren, Kitt Monroe and Jeff Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Natasha Peterscross and Selina Peterscross; step-great-grandchildren, Candice Ramsey, Ray Wootton and Sheila Monroe; sister, Gene Moore of West Memphis, AR; brother, Leland Stratton of Stuttgart, AR; sisters-in-law, Gussie Love of North Little Rock, AR, Patsy Swaffar of Quitman, AR and Elsie Faye Moon of Wilson, AR.

The funeral service is at 2pm Saturday, in Young's Chapel with Rev. Faron Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
