Mayme Ferguson McAteer Mead, 99, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., died Sunday August 12, 2012, at a local hospital. She was born April 9, 1913, in Townley, Alabama, a daughter of the late Charlie and Gracie Ferguson of Norphlet, Ark. Mayme loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family and was a member of Balboa Baptist Church. All of her family sees her death as a new beginning and one day they will all be reunited.

She enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables and canning or freezing the vegetables. She shared her vegetables generously and with great pleasure. Ms. Mead was an outstanding cook, best known for her German chocolate cake and chocolate pie.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sue Dunham and her husband Don of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; her sister, Faye Stephenson of Pueblo West, Colo.; grandchildren, Glenda Carmichael and Jeri Long of Dallas, Texas; step-grandchildren, Pam Hyatt and Allison Whittington of Birmingham, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Glenda Spruill (Christopher), James Long, Brittany Carmichael, step-great-grandchildren, Robyn Whittington, Nicole Phillips (Regan), Joshua Hyatt (Kim) and Mona Taylor; greatgreat-grandchildren, Joycelyn and Beckham Spruill; step-greatgreat-grandchildren, Jayden Taylor, Dameon, Braden and Bella Hyatt, Ava Phillips; niece Linda DeShazo and husband Fred of Pueblo West, Colo.; great-nephew Joseph DeShazo (Bridgett) of Boulder, Colo.; and great-niece Melissa Hamby (John) of Parker, Colo.; and great-great-nieces, Parker and Presley Hamby and Ani DeShazo; nephew Ronnie Ferguson and wife Barbara of Smackover, Ark.; great-niece Jody Sanders (Brian) of Bryant, Ark.; nephew Cleve Ferguson (Tammy) of Benton, Ark. Mayme is preceded in death by her parents, husband Darrel Mead, beloved son Jerry McAteer; stepgrandson Dale Dunham; brothers, Burvile, Herbert, Boyd, Lloyd, Alvin and Roosevelt, and sister Ruby Ferguson.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 17, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family receiving from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson, Kansas. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson, Kansas, and handled by Elliott Mortuary. Rev. Melvin Walton will officiate. A memorial service will be at Balboa Baptist Church in Hot Springs Village, Ark., at a later date.
