J.O. Carney, 76, of El Dorado, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the John R. Williamson Hospice House.

He was born April 11, 1935, to Homer and Vestal Varnado Carney in Smackover. Jewell served in the military as a United States Marine in the Korean War.


He was owner and operator of J.O. Carney Contractors and was of the Baptist faith.

J.O. was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Janice Lewis and Janelle Carney; and one brother, Varney Carney. His is survived by his wife, Jeanette Carney; two children, Tim Carney of Santa Monica, Calif., and Julia Roberts of Hot Springs; a stepchild, Jerry Misenheimer f El Dorado; two children, Dawn Van Heldorf and Pam Duckworth, both of Houston; three sisters, Mary Henricks of Brentwood, Tenn., Jean Frisby of El Dorado, and Carmen Landry of Covington, La.; three brothers, James Carney of Jasper, Jerald Carney of El Dorado, and John Carney of Delray Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Lisbon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Riley officiating. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
