Key thought:50th Reunion Letter

Comments:
Dear Classmates,
I am sending this note through Mike and Betty who have become the funnel of information about and communication between all of us.  I know we all really appreciate their concern for us and willingness to keep the lines open.
I recently called Mike to ask what he has heard  about our reunion in 2011.  A number of people have been thinking about the reunion, and you have probably also been wondering where we are in the process.  I started calling some of our classmates who have been talking to each other.  I have talked with Rachel Miller Newman, John Ralston, Larry Cottrell, Kay Fincher Hyland, Sharon Herring Bernard, Fred Van Hook, and Mary Ellen Rothe Moore, and have tried to reach others.  Rachel attended Fred’s 50th reunion last year, and described a very successful reunion.  Their reunion was held on Homecoming weekend and started with a reception at the Arts Center of South Arkansas on Friday late afternoon—and then they walked over to the stadium for the game.  They met for breakfast at Ryan’s on Saturday morning, then had a dinner and dance at the El Dorado Golf and Country Club on Saturday night.  Most of those I talked with are highly supportive of the idea of the Arts Center and the Country Club.
According to Mike, a Mini-reunion is being planned for El Dorado on either September 25 or October 23, 2010. That would be an excellent time for more discussion and planning to occur. We are going to have a great time, a fun time at our reunion.  Our reunions in the past have been tremendously successful, and this one will be also.  There are many talented and thoughtful people in our class, and I encourage any who want to help to speak up.  If you are unable to attend the Mini, you can still be involved in the planning and the work.
It does appear that if we have our 50th reunion during Homecoming in 2011, we could have some need to nail down reservations for the locations we desire.  The first problem is that the date for Homecoming will not be set until April or May of 2011.  I have talked with the Athletic Department at EHS, and have reviewed the past schedules of games and dates of previous Homecoming games.  The most likely date   will be October 14. 2011 or possibly October 21, 2011.  Ronnie Hughes, the Manager of the Country Club, has been very helpful, and they have penciled in our class for those 2 Saturdays until we know the exact date.  The Director of the Arts Center, Jack Wilson, has also been very helpful, and is holding each Friday night in October, 2011, until an exact date is known.
This note is an effort to get the ball rolling, to gather current thoughts, and encourage comments.  We will  make all the significant decisions as a group, and I look forward to it.  Mary Ellen and I have been following all of the news of our classmates, and the loss of so many , and news of illnesses, has been incredibly saddening.  We look forward to remembering with each of you our time together in El Dorado and hearing stories of your lives and your thoughts.
                                                                   Yours truly,
                                                                    James Moore
