Wm. Gerald Bernard, 63, passed away in Dallas, TX on September 6, 2006 after an eight month battle with heart disease culminating in a heart transplant on July 3. Gerald was born in El Dorado, AR on August 13, 1943. Preceded in death by his parents, Paul T. and Geraldine Slade Bernard, survivors include wife Sharon, sister Ruth Visoski (Steve) of Rowlett, TX, brother Paul E. Bernard (Toni) of Arlington, TX, step-daughter Carol Ann Bassinger (Steve), step-grandchildren Preston and Abby Bassinger of Plano, TX.

Gerald was Chief Chemist at Valero Energy Corporation's Ardmore, OK, refinery for over 26 years, retiring in 2001. He graduated with a degree in chemistry from Henderson State University and was a member of numerous professional societies relating to the petroleum refining industry. Other organizations and interests included the Union County (AR) Genealogical Society and the Oklahoma City Snow Ski Club. He was an active participant and member of the First Baptist Churches of El Dorado and Ardmore.

The family received visitors Friday evening, September 8, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Young's Funeral Directors, 508 Champagnolle, El Dorado, AR. Graveside services were held Saturday morning, September 9, at 11:00 A.M. at Woodlawn Cemetery in El Dorado.
