Margaret Pauline Pickering Gathright, 93, of Little Rock and formerly of El Dorado, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at Baptist Medical Center, in Little Rock following a brief illness.

Born on Oct. 19, 1919, in El Dorado she was the daughter of John Pinson Pickering and Nancy Elizabeth Goodwin Pickering. Margaret graduated from El Dorado High School in 1937, attended McKay’s Secretarial School and later taught shorthand and typing at Maggard Commercial School.

She was married on Sept. 20, 1940, to Roy Davis Gathright. During Margaret’s career, she worked for a variety of attorneys and accountants and was later bookkeeper for the Home Finance Company. She was also secretary to the postal inspector for six years and was later bookkeeper for the Buick dealership in El Dorado for 14 years.

She was a member of the Federation of Porcelain Artists and Porcelain Artists of El Dorado, where she held a number of offices. Margaret was also very interested in genealogy and left a legacy of information for her family.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years; her parents; siblings, Gwynn Pickering, Lucy Willett, Lena Rae Purifoy, Felix Pickering; and a granddaughter, Alana Guest.

Survivors are a son, Randall (Gloria) Gathright, of Maumelle; a daughter, Marilyn (John) Hodoway, of Little Rock; sisters, Claudia Lucas and Nancy George; three grandchildren, Brad (Lisa) Stiles, of Houston, Texas, Stacy (Mike) Stuckly, of Mesquite, Texas, and Jerri (Vernon) Hampton, of Waxahachie, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel Young’s Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends Monday from noon until service time. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
