07blackwood_deweyDewey Blackwood, 96, passed away at his residence in El Dorado, September 24, 2007.

He was born in Pottsville, AR Nov. 7, 1910, to Cass and Ada Jobe Blackwood who preceded him in death along with four sisters and four brothers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Christine Chaney Blackwood, two sons Robert Blackwood and wife, Wanda of El Dorado, Bill "Butch" Blackwood and wife, Lois, of Oklahoma City, OK; one brother, R.M. Blackwood of Heavner, OK; grandchildren, Bob Blackwood and wife, Lea Ann, of El Dorado, Kelly McNeely and husband, Matt, Of El Dorado, Scott Blackwood and wife, Tommi, of Austin, TX, James Blackwood of Oklahoma City, OK, and Sharee and Nick Silver of Oklahoma City, OK; eleven great-grandchildren, and much loved care givers, Leigh, Beverly, Rose, Lillie Mae, Gloria, and Erma.

He was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University where he played football, basketball, baseball, and ran track. He served in the military during WWII as a training officer and received a medical discharge, retiring with the rank of major. He coached football and basketball at Dermott, Waldron, El Dorado, and Forest City for nine years and he always remembered all the boys he coached. After coaching he began a career with Monsanto, Lion Oil, and Tosco as safety engineer. He was an avid Razorback fan. He and Christine went thirteen straight years without missing a game no matter where it was played. He was a member of Second Baptist Church (Cross Life) for 52 years where he was a former deacon, choir member, and Sunday school teacher.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday at Young's.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 26, 2007 in Young's Chapel with Rev. R.M. Blackwood and Rev. Bruce Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
