Biography:

After graduation, I attended the University of Arkansas for two years, then graduated from Southern State College[now SAU] after completing a Medical Technology internship.  For the next 40 years I worked as a med. tech. in various capacities, primarily in the Veterans Administration Hospital System, first in Shreveport and retiring in 2005 from the VA in Ann Arbor, MI.

After some earlier marriage 'setbacks'[which I will describe in detail if asked], I married Wayne Nissen in 1976, and we are the proud parents of two daughters.  Ginny and her hubby live in Columbia, SC where she is a non-practicing attorney and executive director of a non-profit. Her hubby is a captain in the SC National Guard and completed a tour in Afghanistan in July. Heidi is a nurse practitioner and works in the St.Jude Clinic in Huntsville, AL where her spouse works as a projects engineer. Their first child and my FIRST grandchild Sheppard Simpson arrived in July.  Thank goodness..I was afraid the girls were going to have to bring my 'grands' to the rest home to visit!

Wayne and I divorced after 20+years, and I married Joe in 1998. I followed Joe to the Detroit,MI area where he worked for GM. After seven cold winters there, we retired to Shreveport in order to be closer to family, friends, and a large medical community. We traveled for several years in a 40ft. RV, visiting some of the top ten sites on our Bucket List. We enjoyed every minute of it.  We have since had to restrict our travel because of Joe's health issues; I am so grateful that we went while we could!

I now busy myself with volunteer work at a homeless shelter for families. I tutor math in the adult education area, and have once again been reminded of the strong educational foundation I got in the ED school system. To think I believed my days of fractions, decimals, and multiplication tables were over! I am an avid genealogist and have traced the Sheppard family back to the 1600's. It's a never-ending puzzle, and my research and documentation of various branches has taken on a life of its own.

I'm looking forward to the class reunion to once again reconnect with old friends, revisit the days of our youth, and remember 'the way we were'.
