September 16, 1943 - January 1, 2003 Alan Keith Alderson, 59, died suddenly at his home in El Dorado, AR on January 1, 2003, following a lengthy illness. He was born in El Dorado on September 16, 1943, the son of E. Boyd Alderson and Jewell Murphy Alderson. He is survived by his parents, E. Boyd Anderson and Jewell Murphy Alderson; a wife, Bernie Byrne Alderson; a brother, Edwin B. Alderson Jr.; a son, Alan Keith Alderson Jr.; a son, Kevin Lane Alderson; a son, Kenneth Shane Alderson, a son, Ted Botner; and a daughter, Melanie B. Ketcher. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lane Elizabeth Alderson, William Alexis Alderson, Alexandria Jewell Alderson, Caroline Alderson, Benjamin Shane Alderson, Kenneth Luke Alderson, Kendall Marie Kercher, Lacy Merritt Kercher, Callie Elizabeth Kercher, Norman Lee Kercher Jr. and a great-granddaughter, Kaley Kercher. He was the president of Jet Asphalt and Rock Co, Inc. and during his long career, he saw the company grow from a small local paving contractor to one of the finest and most highly respected contractors in South Arkansas. Following his retirement, he continued to be active in business and the management of timberlands. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of El Dorado. He will be remembered by his family and friends as talented, gracious, affectionate, loving and caring person of boundless generosity. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at Young’s Funeral Chapel. Immediately following the memorial service, there will be visitation with the family at the residence at 1405 W. Block until 5 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Alan K. Alderson Memorial Fund of Union County Community Foundation.
