Biography:
After graduation, I worked for a CPA in El Dorado for one year and then, I married Pat Girard in 1962. We lived in Fayetteville and I worked as a bookkeeper at a furniture store while Pat finished college. After college, Pat was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. and we were stationed at several army bases including Maryland, Virginia, and New Mexico before he was sent to Viet Nam in 1966. After his return from Viet Nam in 1967, we moved to Houston. Pat went to work for Travelers Insurance. We lived there for 6 years then moved to Baytown for 2 years. We have lived in Springdale for 36 years. . Pat has always been in the insurance business and I was always a stay-at-home mom to our 2 children, Susan (born 1964) and Keith (born 1970). I was active in PTA and taught Sunday school for several years. In 1983, I began another career as a bookkeeper when I helped Pat start an independent insurance agency. I alternated between working for 5 years and taking a break for 5 years until 2007. We sold our agency to First Arkansas Ins. in 1992, bought it back and sold it again in 2006 to Walker Bros Ins. I worked for 1 year for Walker Bros. Ins. after they purchased our agency. Pat is still fulfilling his employment contract with Walker Bros Ins. I was diagnosed with lymphoma of the pancreas in 2007, treated at MD Anderson in Houston and have been cancer free since Jan 2008. I have 6 month follow ups in Houston. Pat is also a kidney cancer survivor (2004) and had a quadruple by pass in 2008. We have 7 grandchildren, ages 3-14. Two live in Little Rock. Five live in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. We enjoy spending time with our children and grandchildren, attending Razorback sports and traveling. We feel very blessed and grateful to God just to be alive and able to attend my 50th class reunion.
