October 26, 1943 - February 1, 2019 Glen Ray Hines, 75, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019. He was born October 26, 1943, in El Dorado to Lofton Jackson (L.J.) “Big Boy” Hines and Prettice Clay Hines. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, LaRue Hines Phillips, of El Dorado and College Station, Texas, and brother, Jack Hines of Houston. Glen Ray graduated from El Dorado High School in 1961, and attended the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, from 1961-1965. He and his family lived over the years primarily in Houston, where his children were born, then in Alief and Katy, Texas, and finally in the northwest Arkansas area. Above all things in his life, he loved his wife Jody, his high school sweetheart, whom he met in their teens and married in 1965, and their children and grandchildren. He was first and foremost a family man. He took an avid interest in his children’s education and extra-curricular activities, but the event he was most proud of in their lives was their individual acceptance of Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. The most-humble man his children ever knew, he would much rather speak with you about the latest accomplishments of his children or grandchildren than anything he had accomplished himself. And no man his children know spent more time - quality and quantity - with his children. During their formative years, he was completely and totally invested in everything in their lives, and if you asked him, he - in a rare moment of being prideful - would tell you this investment paid off. After his children were grown with families of their own, he took a keen interest in his grandchildren’s lives, always asking about their education and activities, and in his later years, he enjoyed nothing more than attending their athletic and scholastic events. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jody Endsley Hines, of Fayetteville; son Glen and wife Patty, of Springdale and Arlington, Virginia, son Wes and wife Jennifer of Rosenberg, Texas, daughter Shelia Hines Sandefur and husband Kenny of Springdale, grandchildren Dallas and Henry Hines of Springdale, Lindsey and Jeremy Hines of Rosenberg, Texas, JoJo, Shea, and Jeb Sandefur of Springdale, nephew Kevin Hines Phillips and wife Kathleen of Bryan, Texas, nieces Deena Phillips Hardin of Magnolia and Lauren Hines of Houston, sister-in-law Kay Richards Howton of Sugar Land, Texas, friend B.W. Dykes of Springdale, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Glen Ray wanted to express his deepest appreciation and thanks to all the football fans who followed his career at Arkansas and in the cities of Houston, New Orleans, and Pittsburgh. He carried fond memories of his playing days and love of his coaches and teammates with him his entire life. The family wishes to thank the numerous doctors, nurses, and support staff who have taken care of him for their wonderful care and professional attention to Glen Ray throughout his time in the northwest Arkansas area. Special thanks also go to Dr. Eric P. Goodspeed and the nurses and staff of the Willard Walker Hospice House in Fayetteville for their care of Glen Ray in his last days. A visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00pm with a memorial service to follow at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 9, 2019, in the chapel at Young’s Funeral Directors at 508 Champagnolle Rd, El Dorado, AR 71730. Reverend David Prothro officiating under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Willard Walker Hospice House in Fayetteville, Cecil Kellum Park in El Dorado, or the Concussion Legacy Foundation
