April 21, 1943 – September 9, 1986 John Michael Monk, 43, of 1305 N. Jefferson, El Dorado, AR died Tuesday, September 9 following a lengthy illness. He was born April 21, 1943 in Texarkana, TX, the son of John William and Juanita Rucker Monk. He was personnel director for Ensco of El Dorado, a member of Parkview Baptist Church and a veteran of the Vietnam War, U.S. Navy Medical Corps. He was a former administrator of Union County Medical Center, Drew County Hospital of Monticello, Ouachita County Hospital of Camden and assistant administrator of Jefferson County Hospital of Pine Bluff. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Mellor Monk of El Dorado; two sons, James Christopher Monk and John Michael Monk Jr. both of El Dorado; his parents, Mr and Mrs. John W Monk of El Dorado and two brothers; Pat Monk of Orlando, FL and James Monk of El Dorado. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Young’s Chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Harrison and Dr. Mark Coppenger officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Additional information: Mike and Bonnie’s son Michael is married. He and his wife, Donna, live in Little Rock. AR, They have one child. The other son, Chris Monk, lives in El Dorado.
