February 21, 1943 – August 11, 1967 James Robert (Bobby) Squyres, 24, of Norphlet, was killed instantly on Friday morning in an automobile accident in Dayton, TX. The head on collision occurred on a rain-slick highway and resulted in the death of one other person. Mr Squyres was born February 21, 1943, in El Dorado, AR the son of Rufus F. Squyres and Mary C. Ward Squyres. A lifelong resident of Union County, he had been in Channelview, TX for approximately four months and was employed as an electrician. He served four years in the United States Navy and was a member of the Union Baptist Church. Survivors other than his parents include one brother, Gary Squyres of Norphlet; four sisters, Miss Joyce Squyres, Miss Betty Squyres and Miss Sue Squyres, all of Norphlet; and Mrs. Richard Evans of Pine Bluff; his material grandmother, Mrs. Nettie Ward of El Dorado; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Alice Squyres of Norphlet; and his paternal grandfather, J. F. Squyres of Norphlet. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Norphlet with the Rev. Zane Chesser officiating assisted by the Rev. Dale Shirey. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home. A flag presentation will be held at the graveside. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Saulsbury, Bill Saulsbury, Harvey Webb, Ronie Graves, Tommy Taylor and Thomas Creech. Honorary pallbearers will the El Dorado High School Senior Class of 1961.
