Comments:
January 25, 1943 - January 11, 2025 Graveside services for Louise Elma Long Johnson age 81 of Farmerville, LA, will be held at Rehobeth Cemetery in Norphlet, AR, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, with nephew Will Merritt officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of El Dorado, AR. Louise was born on January 25, 1943, in Huntsville, Alabama, to Perry Andrew Long, Sr. and Nannie Lola Morrison Long Andrews and passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Growing up in El Dorado, AR, she was the eldest of six children born to the couple. After graduating from El Dorado High School in 1961 and attending Centenary College, Louise began working at Murphy Oil as a draftsman. She built her career with jobs at Texaco and General Motors until starting her own company which was affiliated with the oil and gas industry in Shreveport. After deciding to accept several out-of-state jobs which included project manager and drafting for construction projects, she took a position at Entergy Power Station in El Dorado. Her lifelong dream was to own a "Junktique" shop, and she did that (Sunset House) just off the square in El Dorado. She finally retired and moved to Farmerville to be near her brothers and sisters. Throughout her life, she created many beautiful paintings and drawings which are treasured by her family. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael Keith Long, brother James Curtis Long, and niece Tiffany Elise Long. Mrs. Johnson will be missed by her loving family consisting of her sons Dwayne Powell (Julia) of Las Vegas, NV, Brant Johnson (Maggie) of Las Vegas, NV, and Lance Johnson of Tyler, TX; grandchildren Dillon Powell, Justin Powell, Aidan Powell, Chloe Hoffman, Seth Wyatt, Arthur Johnson, Archer Johnson, and Katerina Johnson; brother Andy Long (LaJo), sisters Ruthie Nolan (Curry) and Nancy Brantley; sisters- in-law Sheila Long, Kim Long, and Angie Hooper; and numerous nieces, nephews, greats, and great-greats. Her family will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to Rehobeth Cemetery, c/o Ronnie Goodwin, 5104 North Wyatt Drive, El Dorado, AR 71730. "Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live." John 11:25 Condolences can be expressed online at www.youngsfuneralhome.com for the Johnson family. 05/01/2013 New address, moved to Farmerville LA 01/02/09 I relocated to Clinton, MS Thanksgiving weekend. I live in a "mother-in-law" house across the carport from my son Brant and daughter-in-law Maggie. Right next door to Dahlia (2) and Seth (10). Dahlia calls me "Nana-weezie" and is so much joy to me. The twins, boy and a girl are on the way and their way and the ultra sound pictures finally look like babies more than peanuts. I am working in Vicksburg on a construction job and really like it. I miss my house and shop in El Dorado but seeing the kids everyday makes up for the space. I am living in a tiny house. I hope everyone has a wonderful year.

Biography:
1961-2011 So much has happened, Lots of important things, lots and lots of unimportant things of everyday life. But it all adds up to where & who I am today. After high school I attended Centenary College for 2 years then went to work at Murphy Oil as a "mail girl" first and then moved to the drafting department. I learned enough to get me through a career as a draftsman for the next 30 years. I moved to New Orleans in '66 & went to work at Texaco SE Producing office as the first female draftsman. I married in '67 to a fellow draftsman Larry, from Mississippi. We had our first son in '71. He wanted to continue school so we moved to Monroe and he went to La Tech then Northeast. The Monroe area was a rude awakening in 1973. I was hired as Contract Coordinator at the General Motors Guide Plant in Monroe. GM was the exception as far as salary and opportunity. They were willing to hire a woman for a job traditionally men had held. That was an awesome experience. I was in charge of all contracted work in the plant. Needless to say I was VERY busy. In '79 we moved to Shreveport. Larry went to work at the new GM Assembly Plant. He was their first "local" Engineering hire. I wanted another baby and Lance was born there in August of '79. For the next 20 yrs I freelanced with a home office and worked with geologists, land men and a patent attorney. I had two different offices in downtown Shreveport at different times. I liked working from home but did not like running around town when I had several clients. In 1999 I decided I wanted a different life and Larry and I divorced. We are still friends. I then got into a new field of work, construction. I worked as a Document Control manager, first at the new GM Plant in Shreveport, then moved back to El Dorado to work at the power plant job. (You can go home again!) It was not the same but it was good. After that job was over, I had another round of freelance. Then I was fortunate enough to land a Doc Control job at Lion on the diesel hydro treater project. Then on the same project at the Ergon plant in West Virginia and lived across the Ohio River for a year in East Liverpool, Ohio. That was a terrific experience. I returned to El Dorado at the end of that job. By that time I had an apartment on the top floor of the old Gathright building and had an antique/ collectible/ "junque" shop downstairs and worked at American Steel, another opportunity for learning, computer drafting. THEN the building I was living in was sold, rent was doubled. Two days later my job was gone. I decided to retire and move to Mississippi to help with Brant and Maggie's twins, Archer and Katerina, who came along in 2009. Maggie is an attorney. She and Brant had my first granddaughter in 2006. I waited a long time for grandchildren. Maggie has a son, Seth, and along came Dahlia Bayou. I was so happy with my boys, but Dahlia is special. My youngest son lives in Shreveport and is still single. Both my parents have passed and my brother, Mike, was killed in an automobile accident in '95. Other than those losses we have done our part to contribute to the population. As of July 17, 2011, the Long family, including in-laws and step children numbers 53. We try to get together as often as possible. It is rare that we are able to. I am so proud to be a part of this class and feel so honored to count as friends all of my classmates. I consider most of you to be a part of my "family". The losses we have experienced prove to us how special we are to each other.
