August 2, 1943 - April 30, 2013 John Murphy Barker Jr., of El Dorado, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the Willard Walker Hospice House in Fayetteville. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1961 and Louisiana Tech in 1966. He worked for Lion Oil until 1976 then left the office for his love of carpentry. John was a master carpenter and loved to build. He retired from Hargett Construction in 2005. John loved to hunt. He would prepare to go deer hunting all year and when deer season came around we would rarely see him. He would nearly disappear for weeks. In 2010, John went to live with his son, Wade and daughter-in-law, Darlene and grandchildren, Harley and Ruthie. There with them he was able to live, be happy, be taken care of and spend time with his family. He loved his family very much and his family loved him. Preceding him in death are his parents, John Murphy Barker, Sr. and Sarah Jane Barker; and his wife, Ann Davis Barker; and his second wife, Linda Brewster Barker. Left to cherish his memory are his children, son, Wade Barker (Darlene) of Rogers, AR; daughter, Julie Sams (Glenn) of El Dorado; granddaughters, Melody Sams and Ruthie Barker; Grandson, Harley Barker; step-son, Thomas Brewster; granddaughters, Eliza and Sadie Brewster; step-daughter, Crissy Brewster; a cousin, Tap McKin of Hot Springs, who was more like a sister to him; and other family members and friends. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Young's. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Liberty Church with Pastor Jim Bolding officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors. Serving as Pallbearers are Shelby T. Raynes, David Hill, Robert Miller, Jamie McAdams, Brian Peachy, and Dennis Saulsbury. Memorials may be made to Liberty Church, 2501 East Main St., El Dorado, AR 71730.
